Ethos

At Quarrydale Academy we believe that Music can be an integral part of the school and the wider community. Through developing their creativity, listening and performance skills students also develop their interpersonal skills and independence. We believe that music is for everyone and encourage students of all abilities to explore and develop their talents.

Key Stage 3

In Yr7 and Yr8 students have two hours of music lessons over the fortnight in mixed ability groups. Students study a range of topics including 'Songs from the Shows' and 'BBC 10 Pieces and the Orchestra' (Yr7) and 'World Music', 'Cover Versions' and 'Computer Game Music' (Yr8). Students develop their listening, composing and performance skills through learning different instruments such as ukulele, keyboard, guitar and singing.

Key Stage 4

Students wishing to further and develop their musical interests have the option to study the vocational qualification RSL L2 Certificate in Performance or Technology for Music Practitioners. This qualification is equal to one GCSE and students develop their rehearsal and live performance skills or they could choose to develop their music technology and recording skills. Please take a look at the Curriculum link below for more information.

Key Stage 5

Students can continue their musical studies at key stage 5 by studying RSL L3 Subsidiary Diploma for Music Practitioners (Performance). This is a 90-credit vocational qualification equal to 1.5 A Levels. Students further develop their live performance skills as well as investigating careers in the music industry. Students can opt for different units which mean their course is tailored to the individual students' interests and abilities, choosing to develop skills such as composition, marketing and musical directing. Please take a look at the Curriculum link below for more information.

Extra-Curricular

Students have many opportunities to take part in extra-curricular activities within music including Choir, Q-Ukulele Group and Arts Award. Please take a look at the Clubs link below for more information.

Performance Opportunities

Throughout the academic year students have many opportunities to take part in performances within the class room as well as within the wider community. We have events such as the annual Carol Service at All Saints Church in Stanton Hill; Quarrydale Variety Show; Celebration Evening; Theatre Group Show and KS4 & 5 Rockshool Shows.
