A frustrating result from a talented bunch of year 8s. 0-0 at half time was a good performance yet the wind and slope against them on a big pitch proved pivotal in the second half, along with 4 key mistakes that cost us along with some poor finishing.
We played some impressive football, particularly from Jamie stocks-stone, Tyler newton, milla price and Lewis Morgan cutting through their midfield at ease countless times, yet mostly with no end product. It was summarised by the Ashfield coach at the end of the game saying we handed it to them on a plate!
The rugby result was far from the above! More to come I'm sure.
Everything about our performance was better than that of Ashfield and our lads conducted themselves with purpose and dignity throughout.
The whole squad was fantastic but stand out performances by Christian Ulebegor (5 tries) and Cameron Pinnick (4tries and 5 goals) were supported by try scorers Luke Sheppard, Jak Cortez, Ciaran Charlesworth and Adam Wilkinson.
Jak Cortez is worth a special mention as he was extremely nervous before the game but dealt with his anxiety incredibly well.
Thank you to staff for allowing the lads out early. I know often there are players whose behaviour in lessons is not always perfect. It is my firm belief that playing a sport so reliant on discipline that hopefully this can help them in their daily life. It certainly has many times in the past!
